Best Student Paper Award with Experiments in Memory of Giovanni Toso
This year, the ACM WUWNet conference will present an award to a best student paper dealing with experiments on underwater systems in memory of Giovanni Toso.
Giovanni Toso, a young student at the University of Padova, Italy, where he was pursuing his PhD degree, died in a car accident on August 10 2014. After this tragic event, Giovanni’s family decided to employ the offers received from relatives and friends for something that other young students could also benefit from.
The executive committee of WUWNet’15 decided to present an award to a best paper with the following characteristics:
- The first author of the paper is a student
- The paper has been accepted as a full paper
- The paper deals with underwater systems
- The paper contains a significant amount of material describing field experiments and results
These requirements have been devised to be in line with Giovanni’s interest and background, as well as a means to foster the interest of young students in the experimental aspects of underwater systems.
Papers accepted for presentation at WUWNet 2015 and satisfying the requirements above have been evaluated by a committee formed by Carrick Detweiler (University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Chair), Paolo Casari (IMDEA Networks Institute), Jun-Hong Cui (University of Connecticut) and Zhaohui Wang (Michigan Technological University).
The winner will be presented with an award certificate and a USD 500 prize.
