Best Student Paper Award with Experiments in Memory of Giovanni Toso

For the third year, ACM WUWNet will present an award to the best student paper concerning experiments on underwater systems in memory of Giovanni Toso.

Giovanni Toso was a young student at the University of Padova, Italy, where he was pursuing a Ph.D. He died in a car accident on August 10, 2014. After this tragic event, Giovanni’s family decided to use donations received from relatives and friends to the benefit of students working in the same research area as Giovanni, and sharing his passion for applied underwater networking.

The executive committee of ACM WUWNet’17 will present an award to a best paper with the following characteristics:

  • The first author of the paper is a student
  • The paper deals with underwater systems
  • The paper is accepted as a full or as a short paper
  • The paper reports on field experiments and results

These requirements have been devised to be in line with Giovanni’s interest and background, as well as a means to foster the interest of students in the experimental aspects of underwater systems.

Papers accepted for presentation at ACM WUWNet 2017 and satisfying the requirements above will be evaluated internally by a committee appointed for this purpose.

The winner will be presented with an award certificate and a USD 500 prize.
